Cold exposure: when it helps and when it backfires
❄️ Cold exposure can be a powerful tool, but only when it matches your current stress load and recovery capacity.
🧪 Short bouts of cold exposure can improve circulation, stimulate brown fat activity, and increase stress resilience. However, cold is still a stressor. When layered on top of poor sleep, under nuurishment, or chronic stress, it can push the nervous system in the wrong direction.
For women in perimenopause, tolerance to cold exposure can change. What once felt energizing may suddenly feel depleting, which is an important signal to listen to.
🔧 Tip: Start small. Brief cold showers or cool finishes are often enough. If cold leaves you exhausted, irritable, or wired, it is likely too much for now.
